ABOUT THE WORK:
I dreamed of the open sea.
The grey sea and its heavy horizon carried a sort of hazy glow – mysterious and unknown to me.
Instead of clouds, fluffy dandelion petals stretched across the pale purple sky. These were my friends, my parents and my unborn children.
My son invited me to breakfast: “The parquet handles have already cooled down!”

You probably have yet to hear of the term interobject, but you certainly know its meaning very well.
All objects and persons in our dreams or fantasies that seem familiar, that are parts of the uncanny valley, that are on the border between two objects or ideas; all those fantastic combinations in which several known phenomena are combined – these are interobjects, impossible phenomena that make perfect sense in our dreams.
With her exhibition “Promjenjivo stanje stvari” (“The Changing State of Things”), Andrea Taraš tells us about this phenomenon of interobjects.
She arranges found ephemeral objects, building materials, and tools from workshops into new forms that have no clear purpose, and she erases the original function of these objects. This deconstruction and re-arrangement of objects into newly created forms is a cubist approach to the analysis of reality, which makes the first basis of Andrea’s work.

The second step in the development of the work is recording such constructions and interactions with them, which enables the transfer of these creations to another time and space.
The third step is the overlaying projections of the recorded materials over the gallery walls and over the objects themselves, which are now placed in the gallery space.
Together with audio recordings of dreams, this all creates an ambient installation that is palpating the delicate fabric of our reality and our dreams.
The objects that are present in the real space of the gallery are transferred to the projection, that is, they enter the virtual space of the video projection. Their shadows also shape the virtual space, thus creating a kind of quantum interspace, which exists and does not exist at the same time.
With this exhibition, Andrea Taraš seems to introduce us to phenomena and objects that exist simultaneously in both the real and the virtual world, to spaces that exist but do not exist, as well as to our reality that is relative and full of possibilities.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Andrea Taraš graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2022 in the teacher’s department, specializing in sculpture in the class of associate professor. art. Vlasta Žanić. During graduate studies, she attended Restart’s documentary film school (2020) and worked in editing, animation and 3D design. She participated in several group exhibitions (Široko oko, Galerija SC, 2022, Grisia Youth, Rovinj, 2021, etc.). In her artistic work, she explores relativity and impermanence of the reality in which she finds herself, using in this process the deconstruction of her own idea of the media she uses.
